On the recommendation of the Supervisory Board, Peter de Haan will become Director of the Museon in The Hague on 1 January 2019. In doing so, he succeeds Marie Christine van der Sman, who has held this position since 2012 and is now retiring.
Peter de Haan is an experienced manager in the cultural field. As director of the University Museum in Utrecht, he has meant a lot to the city and was the founder of the educational project for primary schools 'Museum voor de klas'. As director of the Foundation Vrede van Utrecht, De Haan made an important contribution to strengthening Utrecht's (inter)national profile as a city of knowledge and culture. He is currently director of Cultuurbedrijf Noordoostpolder, which includes the museum at Schokland World Heritage site.
About Museon, as a partner of the United Nations with the appealing central exhibition 'One Planet', good for 200,000 visitors annually, de Haan says: "Museon not only has a rich collection, appealing exhibitions and a strong educational tradition, but above all it is a museum with a message: discover the world and treat it with respect. That appeals to me greatly."
Peter de Haan expresses his ambition to further strengthen Museon's position and profile and to make Museon's message ring even louder.
